Recent work - hand painted school mural - Columbus High School, Downey CA

Got a chance to provide this entry area hand painted mural for Columbus High School in Downey CA.

As with most mural and hand painted work, the design is enlarged to full size, drawn out on a plotter, and the lines are traced with an electric stylus that perforates holes in the paper. This paper pattern will be taped up in place on site and charcoal pushed through the holes to transfer the design for painting. It’s an old, old sign painter technique (with a few modern updates).

On to the work site. Here are some progress photos from the wall as the work progressed…

Here is the final result… all the painted work got coated with graffiti resistant clear coating, and the plant-on dibond composite logo with digitally printed facing got a graffiti-resistant film over laminate.

I have to say, the client loved their new mural!

You might be thinking about getting this kind of project done, Do you know where to start? I can tell you - contact me, Paul Borne (president of Big City Signs) to find out more.
